Personal Concept Art Project
“Chim Lạc," or Lac crane, is the ancient bird of Vietnamese culture, often paired with the sun symbol. People believe this mythical bird holds the power to cure any illness and even bring people eternal life.
A young apprentice researcher travels with his apothecary teacher through a fantasy Vietnamese-inspired land to learn about different types of plants and magical creatures, both friends and foes, with the final goal of finding the mythical Lac crane to search for a way to create the panacea that treats every sickness.

Character Design
The Apprentice
The main character is a serious apprentice researcher who at first preferred to work alone but gradually learned to open up.
The Companion
I was going with a dragon companion in my silhouettes. However, I saw this book called “Nghe - The Marginal Mascot,” which made me change the companion character into Nghe - a Vietnamese guardian mythical animal that resembles a lion and a dog. I think someone loyal like Nghe fits better into my story of a guardian of an abandoned temple who serves as an early game boss (because they mistook the main character for a thief) but later becomes a companion.

For the world map, I went with a scroll-like design to emphasize how the character would look at the map on his research desk. I gathered some inspirations and mood boards to see how each region would look before finalizing the map design.
